Hopefully you’ve made some headway with your weight loss goals. On the other hand, you may have struck a plateau and aren’t sure what’s stopping you from losing more weight. This month, we recommend you try these 6 simple steps to trigger your fat burning hormones and help you over the hump. You can get rid of your weight problem naturally; you just need the right information and program.
We all have hormones in our body that affect our fat burning abilities. Basically, you have a natural fat burning furnace in your body and you just need to ignite that furnace with a Fairwood Health & Body Transition detox program, healthy lifestyle changes and daily habits that stimulate your fat burning hormones.
Follow these 6 steps and you will reduce your body fat percentage and reach your ideal healthy weight in no time.
1. Prioritize a Healthy Diet
A healthy diet that consists of lean proteins (like chicken and fish), fresh fruits and vegetables, and healthy, unsaturated fats (like olive oil and nuts) will activate your fat burning hormones. Refined sugars and grains, caffeine, and alcohol will stimulate your body to store fat and you definitely don’t want that. Eating sugar, for example, triggers the most powerful fat storing hormone, insulin, and blocks your body from using fat as fuel. Gaining weight will be as easy as a piece of cake. Have a nice salad instead!
2. High-Intensity Interval Training
If you are looking to burn more fat, you should try high-intensity interval training (HIIT). HIIT alternates between intense bursts of activity and fixed periods of less-intense activity or even complete rest. HIIT not only burns more calories, but the effect of all that intense effort kicks your body into hyper drive and triggers your fat burning hormones. So, you will burn more fat in the 24 hours after your workout than you would after a steady-paced bike ride for example.
3. Get Enough Sleep
Deep sleep triggers a greater release of the fat burning hormone called growth hormone (GH). Growth hormone is responsible for helping increase muscle mass, repairing cells and tissue, and causing the breakdown of fat. Growth hormone is strongly associated with deep, non-REM sleep (sleep that takes place in the early hours of the night and lessens in the morning). The trick to maximizing the production of growth hormone in your body is to sleep at least 8 hours and to get to bed between 9 and 10 pm.
4. De-Stress Your Life
Stress does terrible things to our bodies. When stress reaches above comfort levels, your adrenal glands release the fat storing hormone called cortisol. Cortisol makes you gain weight by slowing down your metabolism, causing salt and sugary food cravings, and increasing your blood sugar. High-blood sugar causes the release of insulin, another fat storing hormone. The best thing you can do is learn how to deal with stress. Take time for yourself, do things you love, and get organized. Your body will thank you.
5. Avoid Emotional Eating
Emotional eating is when you consume large quantities of food, usually junk food, due to emotions rather than hunger. Overeating causes stress on the body, raising your blood sugar levels and increasing insulin, causing your body to store fat instead of burning it. It also increases the release of cortisol and decreases DHEA (a hormone that helps the body build lean muscle tissue and fight fat in and on your body). Identify your eating triggers and develop healthy alternatives. Go for a walk, read a book, journal your feelings!
6. Detox Your Body
You have most likely been exposed to high levels of toxic substances and processed foods that have impeded your ability to lose weight and hindered your fat burning hormones. Perhaps the most important thing you can do to help you burn more fat is detoxify! We offer detoxification kits and programs in our clinic that can make all the difference.
